Betty Jean Hollis, 64, of Alton, MO, passed away on March 4th, 2023, with her family by her side. Betty was born on October 5th, 1958, in San Bernardino, CA, to Charles “Gene” Henry and Mary Lee Carlisle. Betty grew up in Southern California with her seven brothers and sisters; Helen, Becky, Cindy, Patty, Bobby, Wayne, and Michael. As a child she adored playing games with her siblings and was always getting into mischief. If you knew Betty, you know how much she loves animals. She was always bringing home new pets throughout her life, including goats. She met her true love, William “Bill” Franklin, while in California. They moved to Missouri together in 1999 and she was by his side until his passing in 2007. Betty was lucky enough to find love again and married James “Jim” Hollis where they started their life together in Alton. Jim supported Betty every step of the way through her health issues, especially being by her side while fighting lung cancer.
Prior to moving to Missouri in 1999, she gave birth to three wonderful children, whom she adored, Robert Carlisle, James Foster, and Patricia (Foster) Bower. She is survived by all three of her children, Robert, James, and Patricia and step-daughter Anna; her husband Jim, her siblings, Helen, Cindy, Patty, and Wayne; as well as 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Mary Carlisle; her husband, Bill Franklin; and her siblings, Becky, Bobby, and Michael.
The family will be having a private memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jim Hollis or Patricia Bower to help cover the costs of expenses. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Mercy and the hospice care provided during her illness.
