Dry Conditions Lead to Burn Bans and Increased Fire Risk

Across the Ozarks, drought conditions are expanding as fall continues and leaves fall. This has led to increased fire risks and many locations enacting burn bans.

For today only, the West Plains has authorized burning, but only after contacting the local Police or Fire Department before doing so.

Most of Arkansas is also currently under a burn ban, encompassing every county within our listening radius. See below a map from the Arkansas Forestry Division’s map of burn bans. This map is current as of yesterday.

With rain not expected within the next week, conditions are likely to worsen. Avoid all burning for the time being, and if you must, make sure to stand by the entire time with some form of fire suppressant.

In Missouri, consult with your local fire department to discern whether a burn ban is in effect, and if it is in doubt, put the fire out.
