“Elevated Fire Danger” Present in the Ozarks

Dry temperatures and cool, dry air moving through the area have added up to create increased fire danger conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.

This increase in fire risk is expected through today, into tomorrow, and into Friday, October 18th.

Due to dry conditions and high winds, active fires can spread rapidly. During this time, outside burning is discouraged; if you must burn, make sure you thoroughly monitor your fire and stand by with a source of water.

In general, make sure to properly discard cigarettes or cigars, and avoid any activity that could generate open flames or sparks.

In addition, the National Weather Service advises to avoid parking on dry grass and to check any trailers for dragging chains.
