The National Weather Service has issued out a publication for the upcoming Summer season. This publication is full of safety tips that the reader should keep in their back pocket as we proceed into the hottest days of the year.
The official day of Summer isn’t until June 20th, but we’ve been experiencing the slow rise of both temperatures and humidity that can cause dangerous conditions for those unprepared.
According to the NWS, extreme heat has the highest number of annual deaths among all weather-related hazards. Remember to watch for the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke as we go forward. Symptoms can include dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea, weakness, and confusion.
While heat exhaustion can typically be treated by placing the victim in a cooler location, heat stroke can cause lasting damage and complications. For those whose symptoms don’t improve, remember that one should act fast and call 911 as soon as serious conditions could be expected.
