Proposed City Administrator Position in Mountain View, MO. Sparks Contention

Mountain View, MO. – The Mountain View City Council has recently proposed and asserted they will begin filling the currently vacant City Administrator position, which has raised eyebrows and tension in the Howell County town.

These developments have come in recent days, when the Mountain View City Council proposed to fill the position but were met with community resistance. The issue appeared to be dropped until recently, when there was an announcement made at a recent Council meeting to interview individuals for the job.

This sparked the organization of a petition and a survey directed at the community at large to oppose this interview and appointment process.

A regular attendee of these meetings of the City Council, Lucinda Burton and an organizer of the petition and survey, told us a big reason for the friction appears to be that the duties of this position have not been explained or outlined. In addition, there is a question about the quality of the candidates and a question about the city’s ability to pay the wages for this position.

The City of Mountain View has remained mostly silent on the matter, staying neutral. However, it is outlined in city ordinance that only the mayor can, at the end of the day, appoint someone to the position of city administrator.

Those who have an opinion on this matter have been asked to make their opinion known, one way or another, by appearing at City Hall tomorrow evening, October 24th at 5pm, as the City Council begins interviews for the position.
