Violet Louise (Howell) Reed

Violet Louise Howell was born December 22, 1922, in Koshkonong, MO, to parents Fred Emery Howell and Ada Ethel (Standley) Howell. She grew up on a farm over a mile east of Koshkonong. She was the oldest child in the family and had seven siblings. Violet attended her first two years of school at Stoney Point School, she then went to school at Koshkonong for the rest of her years, graduating in 1941. Violet attended college at Cape Girardeau after high school and then started teaching. She taught five years at one room schoolhouses, all eight grades between the years of 1942 through 1947.

Violet was united in marriage June 14, 1946, in Salem, AR, to Leamon Jesse Reed. To this union two daughters were born, Elaine Kay, March 28, 1948, and Karen Gay, April 19, 1951.

She is survived by: daughters, Elaine Kay Reed and Jack Payne, and Karen Gay Reed and Kelly Johns of Springfield, MO; two brothers, Melvin Wayne Howell and wife Penney and Paul Ralph Howell and wife Mary Lou; sister-in-law, Becky Howell; brother-in-law, John R. Reed; and sister-in-law, Loveta Dulany; special cousin, Joy Evans; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded by: her loving husband, Leamon Jesse Reed; her parents; brothers, Vernon Emery Howell and wife Minnie Laverne, Virgil Howard Howell and wife Mabel Alene, Van Leslie Howell, Wade Jackie Howell; sister, Gracie Fern Adams; brother-in-law, Elmer Leo Adams; sister-in-law, Leatha Mae Griffith and Cecil Floyd; brother-in-laws, Charles Edward Reed and wife Mary Ellen, and Arthur Junior Reed; sister-in-law, Louvernia Devena Reed; brother-in-law, Buford Allen Dulany; sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Reed.

Violet was a faithful Christian and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Rogersville, MO. God and family were the most important things in her life.

Graveside Services will be 11am January 14, 2022, at the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR. Mrs. Reed will lie in state from 8am-10am Friday morning prior to the service at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO.
Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Reed’s name.
