On Wednesday, Missouri Congressman Billy Long made his official announcement to run for the Senate seat that will open when current senator Roy Blunt finishes his term. Long begun his campaign tour around Missouri with a stop at Hirsch Feed and Farm Supply in West Plains. With the plan on visiting all 114 counties in Missouri, Long wore a pair of New Balance shoes to begin his “run” for Senate. Long spoke on the topics of illegal immigration, expanding police presence, and mentioned critical race theory.
Long will be running for the Republican candidate against Mark McCloskey, who recently received a pardon from Missouri Governor Mike Parson for 4th degree assault; former Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, who resigned over campaign and invasion of privacy scandals; and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt.
Incumbent Missouri Senator Roy Blunt declared he would not run for re-election in March of this year.
The election for the next Missouri Senator will take place on November 8, 2022. Primary elections will take place in August 2022.
