Fire chief: NWS to investigate damage near Lanton

LANTON, Mo. — The community of Lanton is still recovering following high winds over the weekend that caused some damage near the town.

Lanton Fire Chief Stanley Mattes says the department was dispatched to an area north of Lanton just after 11 pm on Saturday, December 28 for several trees blocking the highway. Other calls came in concerning trees down on a home and a vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Mattes says the National Weather Service will be inspecting the area in the near future to determine if the damage was caused by straight line winds or a small tornado.
