COLUMBIA, Mo.  – Mizzou Football junior linebacker Nick Bolton (Frisco, Texas) was announced to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, announced by the league office Thursday.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.

Bolton has been heavily involved in the Columbia community, specifically with the #Mizzou4Change movement, which attempts to bring to light the social injustices facing our country. In June, Bolton joined his teammates, coaches and Mizzou Athletics administrators for a march to the county court house that resulted in the registering of approximately 60 teammates to vote. Next, during fall training camp, Bolton was a part of a unity march to bring awareness to the Black Lives Matter movement. Bolton is also involved in Mizzou’s Care Portal Program, which attempts to combat the issues facing our nation’s foster care system by providing funds to the care systems throughout the nation.

On the field, Bolton is a Butkus Award finalist, given annually to college football’s top linebacker. He was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week following Mizzou’s win over Kentucky and was named National Defensive player of the Week following Mizzou’s win over LSU on Oct. 10.
