COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women’s Basketball senior forward Shannon Dufficy (Melbourne, Australia) was one of 30 candidates selected for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award, announced by the organization Monday. The award recognizes NCAA Division-I seniors who have notable achievements in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, focuses on the total student-athlete, and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The candidate field of 30 will be narrowed down to 10 finalists for the official ballot in February. From there, a voting system which consists of media, coaches and fans will decided the final winner.
Through 14 games in her senior campaign, Dufficy is averaging 5.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41.9 percent from three (13-of-31). She reached the impressive milestone of 1,000 career points in Mizzou’s season-opening win over North Alabama on Nov. 27 and is just 104 rebounds away form reaching 1,000 career rebounds.
In three years at Utah State, Dufficy was a two-time all-conference player at Utah State, earning Mountain West all-freshman team honors in 2016-17 and all-conference first team honors in 2018-19. As a junior in 2018-19, she averaged a double-double (15.8 ppg / 10.3 rpg) while setting the school single-season records rebounds (339) and double-doubles (19). Dufficy left Utah State ranked first in career double-doubles (31) and second in rebounds (838).
Mizzou returns to the road this week when it travels to face No. 2/1 South Carolina on Thursday, Feb. 11. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
