COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (8-15, 1-5 SEC) dropped the series finale to No. 1 Vanderbilt (19-3, 5-1 SEC), 3-1, on Saturday night at Taylor Stadium.
Mizzou jumped to an early lead on a two-out RBI single from junior Tre Morris in the bottom of the second. The Tigers’ advantage would hold through the fifth behind four shutout innings from freshman Zach Hise in his third start.
Vanderbilt broke through in the top of the sixth, scoring a pair in the frame after an errant throw on a sacrifice bunt. Only one of the two runs was earned as the Commodores took a 2-1 lead without the benefit of a hit. The ‘Dores tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Senior Konnor Ash (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Tigers. The right-hander surrendered two runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out a pair. Thomas Schultz (2-2) earned the win for Vanderbilt with five innings of one-run ball.

Head coach Steve Bieser on a tough finale…
“It was a well-played game, it was an entertaining game, but there are no moral victories in SEC play. You’re at your home field and you get swept, and those aren’t good things. That’s something that we’ve got to be a little bit tougher as a team and fight just a little bit harder.”
