Roy Howard Frye

Roy Howard Frye, Ava, MO., 81 years, 6 months, 21 days old, passed on to his Heavenly home on May 14, 2021.

Roy was born October 23, 1939 in Ava, Missouri to Glenn and Iris (Garland) Frye.

Roy was a 1957 graduate of Ava High School. He lived his life in the family home with his parents until their passing and he remained in the home for another 8 years before moving to Springfield to be closer to his brother and sisters.

He enjoyed his Limousine cattle and going to the Douglas County Sale Barn to watch the livestock sell and most of all visiting with friends and neighbors.

 

He was a member of the Black Oak General Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 12 years. He attended 38 years only missing 11 Sunday services due to minor illnesses during a promotion by his pastor Rev. Lawrence Applegate to encourage the youth to be faithful in attendance.

Roy worked along beside his Dad, Glenn in the Frye and Son Grocery Store south of Ava for many years before it closed and helped with selling produce on the Ava square. He was always very friendly to his community.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert, brother-in-laws Kenny Treese, Larry Case and Otis Hall.

 

Roy was the fourth child of six and is survived by: Dorothy Treese, Ozark; Myrtle Case, Sparta; Jerry and Bonnie Frye, Springfield and Glenda Hall, Ozark. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.  

The family expressed a special thanks to Bill and Sue Downs for always helping Roy with many needs he had when his family could not be there. A special thank you to Shirley Riley for providing transportation for Roy to attend church services at Black Oak General Baptist Church three times a week. And thank you to Garry Hicks for helping Roy when he had questions about repairs around the house. Also thank you to others he would call when needing help and to those who talked with him answering his many phone calls.           

Funeral services for Roy will be Monday, May 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Fannon Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor David Dodson. Memorials may be made to Fannon Cemetery or Black Oak General Baptist Church
