COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the second straight season, Mizzou Soccer (6-9, 2-6 SEC) downed the No. 13 team in the nation in the pink game. The Tigers took down No. 13 Ole Miss (11-3-2, 6-2 SEC) for their first ranked win of the Stefanie Golan era.
The Tigers jumped on the board immediately. Ole Miss attempted to clear the ball after a cross into the box, and Megan Oduyoye drove the ball into the top right corner to give Mizzou the lead in the third minute.
The sides played a quiet first half after the early fireworks from Oduyoye. Ole Miss led in shots at the break 3-2. Each keeper was forced into action only once apiece.
TURNING POINT
Cassidy Nurnberger got the Tigers’ scoring started right away in the second half. Eryka McIntyre played a ball down the right side of the field, just in front of the Mizzou bench for Julissa Cisneros. Cisneros was able to play a right-footed cross into the box and Nurnberger’s header went over the keeper’s head into the bottom-right corner of the Ole Miss goal.
With the Tigers leading 2-0, Ole Miss increased the pressure. The Rebels fired 12 shots in the second half, but were unable to put many on goal. They were able to break through in the 59th minute after a corner. Martin was able to get the ball in the net for Ole Miss while Davis and Loposer were credited with the assists.
The Tigers were able to burn out the remainder of the clock to secure the first ranked win of the season.
TOP TIGERS
Megan Oduyoye scored the first goal of her career to get the scoring started. She had only attempted one shot in her career entering the match.
Cassidy Nurnberger scored her third goal of the season that would eventually be the winner for the Tigers.
Julissa Cisneros added assists in back-to-back matches to bring her career total to 11.
NOTES
Nurnberger has scored in consecutive matches for the first time in her career.
In 2020, the Tigers downed then-No. 13 Vanderbilt in the pink game. Cassidy Nurnberger provided the winning goal in that match as well.
Jenna McCormick played a career-high 80 minutes for the Tigers.
Momola Adesanmi moves into a tie for second in Mizzou history with 85 career appearances.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will travel to Kentucky to face off with the Wildcats on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The Tigers will look to improve their position in the SEC Tournament race.
