Older Phones Becoming Obsolete With the Cessation of 3G Service

If you’re one of the many in our area with an older phone, you may be forced to upgrade very soon. Service providers have announced that they will be canceling 3G services very soon. What this means is that, if your phone is an older model that runs on a 3G signal, it will cease to be able to maintain a signal or connection, despite the fact that it may still be in physical working order.

This cessation of service won’t just impact phones, but potentially anything that relies on 3G. This could include medical devices, smart devices, certain specific appliances, home security systems, and even your vehicle. Any device that connects to the internet could become affected.

Talk to your service provider to find out more specific information, but providers will all have different dates for ending 3G. AT&T ended theirs Tuesday, and US Cellular has already begun gradual stopping of theirs, while others will be later this year.
