Mizzou Routs SIUE, 12-2, in Seven Innings

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Nander De Sedas continued his hot streak at the plate with a three-RBI performance to lead Missouri baseball past SIUE, 12-2, in run-rule fashion on Wednesday night at Taylor Stadium.

De Sedas’ trio of RBI pushed his season total to 13 following a 1-for-2 night with a pair of walks. Ty Wilmsmeyer, Carlos Peña and Ross Lovich added multi-RBI nights for the Tigers as Mizzou (15-7) needed just four hits to plate the 12 runs, capitalizing on 16 walks issued by SIUE (10-12) pitching.

On the mound, graduate Christian Wall (1-2) earned the win with three innings of one-run work. He struck out three while allowing just one run on one hit. Kyle Potthoff followed with four strong innings in relief, surrendering just one run on two hits to close out the game and earn his second save of the season.

IMPACT INNING

Mizzou struck seven times in the bottom of the second to put the game out of reach. Two walks and a balk put men at second and third before Luke Mann and Fox Leum drove home runs with sacrifice flies. Leum’s fly ball was dropped in left field, allowing the Tigers to tack on five unearned runs.

After two more walks loaded the bases, De Sedas singled through the left to drive in two and make it 6-1. Wilmsmeyer followed with a single to tack on two more and moved to third on the play thanks to a throwing error. A bunt single from Ross Lovich finished the scoring as Wilmsmeyer crossed the plate to extend the lead to 9-1 after two.

FROM THE SKIP

Coach Bieser on patience and capitalizing at the plate…

“We did a good job I thought with our plate discipline and took what the pitcher gave us. That allowed us to score those 12 runs with few hits, but tough conditions, tough night to play. I really liked the way that the team kind of came out and responded.”
