COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri men’s basketball team will take part in the 28th-annual AutoNation Orange Bowl Basketball Classic, facing UCF on Dec. 17, 2022, at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Game times will be announced at a later date.
Missouri is a part of the tournament field which includes Florida State and St. John’s in the other matchup. The Classic is the only Division 1 basketball event played in Broward County. The matchup against UCF is the second game of Mizzou’s 2022-23 slate to be released, following the announcement of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge against Iowa State on Jan. 28, 2023, inside Mizzou Arena.
Dennis Gates enters his first season at the helm of the Mizzou program, following a successful three seasons at Cleveland State where the led the Vikings to back-to-back conference championships and postseason appearances. The Tigers return All-Southeastern Conference performer, Kobe Brown, to the 2022-23 roster while welcoming 12 newcomers.
UCF finished the 2021-22 season with an 18-12 record, which included regular-season wins against Miami, Michigan and Memphis before falling in the American Athletic Conference Quarterfinals. The Knights are led by Johnny Dawkins, who enters his seventh season in 2022-23. Dawkins led UCF to the NCAA Tournament in 2019, securing the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament win against VCU.
