Leonard Freeman

Leonard Leon Freeman, son of the late William and Emma (Crisp) Freeman, was born October 31, 1926, in Brixey, Missouri, and passed away September 14, 2022, at his home in Mountain Grove. He was 95 years, 10 months, and 15 days of age.

Leonard attended school in Douglas County. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the U.S as well as in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Leonard married Madge Melton in 1952. They spent 70 years together working, playing, and enjoying the many blessings in their life. They greatly enjoyed traveling, visiting Florida, and places in Hawaii, Canada, Alaska, cruising the Caribbean, and taking a Mediterranean cruise that included Italy, Greece, and Turkey.

Leonard and Madge became members of First Free Will Baptist Church in 1953. He served as a trustee, and Sunday school teacher and Superintendent. They loved their church family and greatly appreciated their caring support during the last few years.

Leonard worked in the furniture business and then managed Hylton’s Hardware for 18 years, both in Mountain Grove. In his spare time, Leonard enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching several other sports.

Besides his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Don Freeman, and three sisters, Oma Luallen, Nancy Tetrick, and Mary Collins.

He is survived by his loving wife, Madge Freeman of their home, one brother, Lloyd Freeman, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Christine Melton, one sister-in-law, Wanda Prock, several nieces and nephews, and other friends and church family who will dearly miss him.
