Mountain View Updates on Chamber, SBU, Ribbon Cutting, & Christmas Parade

Mountain View, MO. – On Tuesday October 11th the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon at the Community Center and welcomed guest speaker Shae Miller, Campus Director of Southwest Baptist University in Mountain View and Salem Missouri.

Shae informed those present of the changes taking place within the vision of new SBU President Rick Melson.  Changes within the Mountain View campus includes remodeling of the classrooms, improving the green space and better utilizing the space for a better student and staff experience.

Miller also informed the audience that the Mountain View campus of SBU has seen enrollment grow over the last three years, this includes students taking more hours as well.  What once was a very high percentage of non-traditional students has now shifted to a pretty even mix of traditional and non-traditional students,  part of the traditional student growth is attributed to several homeschooled students enrolling as well.

When the campus was primarily non traditional students, classes were held from 4 – 10 p.m. and while those hours are still available they now have early afternoon classes as well.  While SBU is a private university, that does not mean higher costs, students that are pell grant eligible can receive their education without any out of pocket expenses and they have many scholarship options available that are designated to the Mountain View campus.

SBU Mountain View is also offering dual enrollment classes for High School students at half the cost of normal classes.  To find out more about Southwest Baptist University find them online at sbuniv.org or you can call the campus at 417-934-2999.
