David A Oaks, 62, of Cabool, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 4, 1960, the third oldest born to Charlie and Vivian (Bauer) Oaks while the family was stationed in France.
David grew up in Cabool and graduated with the class of 1978. That same year he was set up on a blind date with Claudette Eckert at a local carnival. It was meant to be, as they were united in marriage on October 13,1979 and then welcomed their daughter, Amy, in 1981.
David began his career at Cabool Lease Inc/WDT in 1979 as a mechanic and jack of all trades. Throughout the years, he obtained his CDL license and along with his wife, drove a truck part time on the weekends delivering or picking up milk or hauling wrecked or broken down trucks/trailers. When not driving, he worked at various different positions and before his health declined, was a member of WDT’s maintenance team. He thought the world of his co-workers and could occasionally be seen there visiting on his days off.
David enjoyed a good joke and had a contagious laugh. His laugh is unforgettable and will be missed by so many. He also looked forward to summers for camping trips, fishing and to just enjoy sitting outside on his evenings off. But his main pleasures were spending time with family. From playing pool, cards or dominos, to cooking out for get togethers. He even enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to parallel park and the occasional road trips with them.
David was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Oaks and nephew, Jared Reese. He is survived by his mother, Vivan Oaks; his wife of 43 years, Claudette Oaks; daughter, Amy (Daniel) Morgan; two grandchildren, Danielle and Brian Morgan all of Cabool, MO; two brothers, Charles (Janet) Oaks of Springfield, MO and Billy (Lisa) Oaks of Marshfield, MO; three sisters, Rose (Keith) Harris of Nixa, MO, Mary (Harold) Curtis of Mountain Grove, MO and Valerie (Dwight) Reese of Vanzant, MO; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
