West Plains, MO. – The Chaos Closet, a 501c3 nonprofit located in West Plains, was created to meet the needs of children in foster care in Missouri’s 37th Judicial Circuit. When a child enters foster care, it is often with just the clothes on their back. The Chaos Closet was designed to help foster families meet the needs of the children they are caring for through diapers, formula, baby gear, gently used clothing, and so much more when the need arises. While The Chaos Closet may take donations of gently used clothing items, one thing not accepted in used condition is underwear. This is often a need that is overlooked and in short supply.
Through funding received through the Community Foundation of West Plains, The Chaos Closet is excited to announce a new program initiative that they call Undies for Everyone.
Through the Undies for Everyone program, their focus is to help promote better personal hygiene and recognize the importance of this very basic need as part of a child’s long-term success. It is the goal of this initiative to ensure every local child in foster care has access to the dignity of clean underwear.
Chaos Closet Executive Director DeeDee Button says, “Thank you to the leadership of the Community Foundation of West Plains for recognizing this need and helping us to launch this new program initiative through The Chaos Closet. We are grateful for their support and to be addressing this basic need that could potentially jeopardize a child’s sense of self-worth.”
Foster parents, caseworkers, and advocates can now request assistance with new underwear by visiting www.thechaoscloset.com/undiesforeveryone and completing the request form.
