Salem, MO. – Coming up in April, the voting citizens of Salem, MO, will have to decide on a few issues involving cash flow within their town.
The first issue is regarding a city-wide sales tax increase. This tax will be 1%, or 1 penny for every dollar spent. One of the goals of this increase is to rely less on city utility rates, potentially meaning lowered costs for citizens.
The second issue for the city is a bond measure presented as a way to update, maintain, and otherwise upgrade the city water treatment facility. According to officials, these fixes are a federally mandated requirement, and so money for the project will have to come from somewhere, either through this bond or through increased rates.
Officials have scheduled a town hall meeting as a way to communicate with the public on these issues. It is scheduled on February 21st from 5-7 pm. The location will be the city hall auditorium.
