West Plains man arrested after fleeing police

West Plains, MO. – A West Plains man was arrested on February 21, 2023, after a high-speed chase through the town. Heath W. Neitzel is charged with Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony

Neitzel was observed trespassing at a residence on Washington Avenue by a West Plains Police officer. The officer attempted to stop Neitzel in a red and white Chevy Silverado after the suspect left the residence and was driving on St. Louis Street with a brake light out. According to the probable cause statement, Neitzel then fled the officer, reaching speeds of 60 MPH in residential zones with speed limits of 25 MPH.

Neitzel was taken into custody in the parking lot of Midnight Auto on Joe Jones Boulevard. He reportedly told the officer he fled because he knew he had been trespassing. Following a search of the vehicle, a drill was located in the truck that may be linked to burglaries in the area. 

Heath Neitzel is currently free on a $10,000 surety bond. The accused is also facing charges from March 2022 for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing – creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death to any person.
