Richard Earl Frederick was born December 8, 1941, in Alexandria, Virginia, the son of Robert Leon and Berta Irene (Davis) Frederick. He passed from this life to join his beloved wife on April 2, 2023.
Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Leslie Frederick of Mayville, North Dakota; his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Marvin Corbin of Eminence, Missouri; five granddaughters, Elizabeth and Abigail Frederick, and Erin, Caitlynn, and Heather Corbin, five great-grandchildren; his brothers, David and Alvin Frederick; and his sister, Shelia Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathie Elaine Frederick; parents, Robert and Irene Frederick; and sister, Patricia Gray.
Richard grew up in the Occoquan and Woodbridge, Virginia, area and graduated from Gar-Field High School in 1962. In 1963 he joined the United States Army and served until 1966, honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 5. Following his time in the Army, Richard became a deputy with the Prince William County Sheriff’s Department. It was during this time, he met the woman that would become the love of his life, Kathie Elaine Kinnaird. They were married on September 13, 1969, and continued to live in Woodbridge, Virginia, until 1976. The family moved to Winona, Missouri, in January 1977, where Richard and Kathie have resided ever since. He worked several jobs in the area, finally settling at Paramount Headware and retiring from there after many years as the warehouse foreman.
Richard enjoyed traveling with his wife, working on his car, watching old Western movies, and listening to classic Country and Western music. And, of course, he loved his family. He was a man of few words, but he took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow up and start lives of their own.
On January 12, 2023, his wife of 53 years passed suddenly and unexpectedly. While he had a number of health issues over the last several years, his family believes that he simply died of a broken heart after losing his beloved wife, Kathie.
It is hard losing both parents or grandparents in such a short period of time. However, there is a sense of comfort in knowing that their physical suffering is finished, and a sense of peace in knowing that they are back together again.
A private family-guided memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Winona, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family’s GoFundMe page at https://gofund.me/48cd813a. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
