West Plains, MO. – A Van Buren man received felony DWI charges following a two-vehicle crash on Saturday, September 2, 2023. According to the report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5 p.m. on Highway 21, three miles north of Van Buren.
A southbound Jeep Cherokee driven by Meljen Hernandez, age 39 ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and traveled into the southbound lane, striking a Nissan Rogue driven by Kirk, McCabe, age 59 of Ellington.
The Jeep was totaled and the Rogue received extensive damage. According to the report. Kirk McCabe was not injured but his passenger, Angela McCabe, age 56, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
Hernandez suffered moderate injuries in the crash. Before being released for medical treatment, he was cited for Felony DWI causing serious physical injury, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, no insurance, and no valid license. He was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital for treatment.
