Houston Wins their SCA Opener

Houston welcomed in the other set of Tigers in the SCA Conference, Salem. It was a defensive first quarter with both team struggling to move the ball. The first offensive possession for both teams ended with punts.

The second quarter seemed like it would be a copy of the first quarter. Then, with Salem on offense, what looked like a possible interception, turned into a long touchdown pass. A Houston defender tipped the pass and it fell into the hands of the Salem receiver. The extra point was good, making it 7-0. Houston responded on their next offensive possession. They drove down the field and scored on a run from the six yard line. Houston’s extra point was successful and tied the game, 7-7. Houston scored one more time, with nineteen seconds remaining on the half. The extra point was successful, the score was 14-7 going into the break.

Houston came out of the break firing on all cylinders scoring on their first drive, the PAT was good. They lead 21-7. After a Salem punt, Houston ran the ball effectively and took control of the clock. They were knocking on the door of the end – zone as the third quarter ended.

Houston came out and scored on their first play of the fourth quarter, with a successful PAT, the score was 28-7. Houston continued to run the ball well and scored again, making it, 34-7 with a unsuccessful extra point. Salem scored with about two minutes remaining and the kick was not good, Houston lead 34-13. Houston finished the scoring with one more touchdown with their younger players in the game. The kick was good and the final score was 41-13, Houston.
