Robert George Miller

Robert George “Bob” Miller, of Koshkonong, Missouri, was born on March 13, 1927, to Robert Henry and Clarissa Jane (Pope) Miller in Jefferson City, Missouri. He passed away on October 30, 2023, in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 96.

Bob joined the United States Navy on March 9, 1945, and he celebrated his 18th birthday on a train heading to Chicago for boot camp. Bob was stationed on the USS Daniel T. Griffin in the Philippines during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 17, 1946, with the rank of Fireman First Class, and was later discharged from the Navy Reserves on April 14, 1953.

Bob was united in marriage on April 14, 1952, to Elizabeth Irene Wickins in Leeds, Missouri. To this union, two children were born, Mary and Robert “Bobby”.

Before and after his military service, Bob worked as a utility worker for General Motors Company in Leeds. After his retirement in 1975, Bob, Elizabeth, and Bobby settled on Elizabeth’s family farm near Koshkonong.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Thayer, Missouri, and VFW Auxiliary 731 and was a former member of St. Bernadette Church in Kansas City. Bob’s favorite pastimes were playing cards, working crossword puzzles, working in his garden, and going to Bingo every Thursday night. He was also a volunteer for the food pantry in Thayer for almost 20 years. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Dennis and husband, Richard of Odessa, MO; his son, Robert “Bobby” Miller, and wife, Paula of Koshkonong, MO; two brothers, Jim Miller of Colorado and Roy Miller and wife, Betty of Grain Valley, MO; one sister, Clara Lenox of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Lonnie Farmer and wife Quiana of Mammoth Spring, AR, Janet Jones and husband, Donavan of Raymore, MO, Brian Miller of West Plains, MO, and Dana Jackson and husband, Kenneth of Pomona, MO; eleven great-grandchildren, Dakota, Jordyn, Cheyenne, Dawson, Mackynzie, Emma, Nevaeh, Keafer, Zachary, Brantley, and Harper; six great-great-grandchildren, Kingsleigh, Walker, Bryer, Nas, Noah, and Calflynn; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his parents; three brothers, John, Tom, and Vic Miller; two sisters, Mary Dusil and Ruth Creed; and two infant great-great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri, under the direction of Muehlebach Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Lonnie Farmer, Brian Miller, Chad Wickins, Donavan Jones, Cynthia Keller, and Dana Jackson. Memorial donations may be made to Oregon County Food Pantry, PO Box 189, Alton, MO 65606.
