Alton, MO. – A Birch Tree man was arrested Wednesday for stealing a UTV near Alton on Christmas.
Lloyd Allen Miller, age 45, is charged with two felonies: Stealing $750 or more and 1st-degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
A Massimo Knight 500 was reported missing from a residence on County Road 411, roughly halfway between Alton and Thomasville off of US 160, late on the night of the 25th. A multijurisdictional investigation was performed by the Alton Police and the Sheriff’s Offices of Shannon and Oregon Counties.
The probable cause statement notes that wires to security cameras on the property had been cut but had caught two people entering the property before the video terminated. Further examination of the security video revealed the two subjects in a Dodge Pickup, with one identified as Miller.
The statement says officers located Miller at a residence in Oregon County where he was taken into custody.
In post-Miranda interviews, Miller confessed to helping two people steal the UTV, which was taken to a residence in Shannon County. Arrest warrants have been applied for the arrest of others involved.
With the assistance of the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office, the UTV was recovered at an area known to authorities to be a hiding spot for stolen items and returned to its owners.
