Springfield man charged for assaulting two women in West Plains

West Plains, MO. – A Springfield man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting two women in West Plains on New Year’s Day. According to reports from the West Plains Police, the incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. on January 1, 2024.

Daniel R. Wier, age 24 of Springfield, Missouri, is charged with two counts of 3rd degree assault and was initially arrested following the incident. A criminal summons has been issued for Wier for an initial court appearance on February 26th.

According to the probable cause statement, two women reported that Weir had assaulted them. Wier had allegedly huffed three air-duster cans before going into the backyard of the residence. The first woman had gone to check on Wier and he hit her in the face six times. The second woman went to check on the first who said Wier had struck her multiple times as well. Pictures were taken of the bruises, swelling, and bleeding of the women.

A third woman was interviewed by police who managed to stop the incident. The third woman told police her dog bit Wier after they saw him hitting the women. She said she grabbed a lamp, hit him, and knocked him out. 

Wier was then transported to Ozark Healthcare to treat the cuts to his face. In post-Miranda interviews with police, the statement says he didn’t remember anything that had happened.
