Zizzers Win over Tigers, 48-42

The West Plains Zizzers took on the Waynesville Tigers at the West Plains High School on Tuesday, Feb. 6th. The Junior Varsity team won their game against the Tigers JV team 44 to 36 and the Varsity team was looking to repeat the win.

Zizzers controlled the early game with an 10 point run to open the game. Tigers would make one successful shot during the quarter. The Zizzers were just sinking more shots than the Tigers, as both teams had few turnovers.

The Zizzers kept the pressure up, keeping the Tigers on their toes and looking for a shot. West Plains made the first 4 points of the quarter and Waynesville first point in the quarter was the first free throw of the game. The Tigers managed to start penetrating the Zizzer defense and making some solid shots, including their first three point shot of the game. Waynesville then went on a minute and a half game of catch, running the clock down to the end of the first half. Zizzers lead at the half 23 to 17.

Waynesville starts the second half making two shots and pulling four fouls from West Plains in the first minute and thirty seconds, making more turnovers. The Zizzers and Tigers faced a tie game under 5 minutes in the third that breaks as Waynesville takes a slim lead. The Tigers hold the lead to end the third Zizzers 35, Tigers 36.

The Zizzers kept the game close but a three point shot would put West Plains back in a lead. This lead they held, if close. Turnovers continued to plague the Zizzers during the fourth. The Zizzers grabbed a 4-point lead and would end the game with a 2-handed dunk by Briggs Houston for the win.

The West Plains Zizzers defeat the Waynesville Tigers, 48-42. The Zizzers next play against Parkview on Friday, Feb 9th at 7 p.m.
