West Plains, MO. – On Saturday, April 20, 2024, there will be a chess tournament to support Chaz Coats held at Rubydoo’s Vintage Events. The chess tournament is open to adults and school-aged children.
The divisions for the tournament will be High School grades 9 through 12, Middle School grades 5 through 8, Elementary grades 4 and under, and adult. Adult entries are free. The tournament will start at 9 with registration and proceed after 9:30 a.m. with 5 rounds of chess. Each round will last an hour, with a lunch break around 12. Individual medals will be given to 1st through 5th places in 3 age groups and pins will be rewarded to 6th through 10th place and to the 1st through 5th place in adults. There will be a 1st place team trophy in each division. Hot dogs, chips, and water will be provided.
You can register at the door before 9:20. The registration fee is $10 per participant. All the money will be going to the memorial of Chaz Coats and will also be put into a scholarship fund under his name. For more information text Serghei Iacovlev at 417-252-1130 or email chess@serega.com.
