Jim Brown

Jim Brown, 76 years, 7 months, and 28 days old, peacefully passed away on May 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Jim was born September 27, 1947 in Waukegan, Illinois to James Edward and Ruth (Kelly) Brown.

Jim was a member of the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Ava, Missouri. He was also a member of the Knight’s of Columbus and the Parish Council.  He served at St. Leo the Great Church in many capacities, including  Defender of the unborn and an active member of the Right to Life.  He also served as volunteer coordinatator for Heartline Hospice Care for several years. 

Jim was the Director of DOCO for many years. He also served on the Ava Ambulance Board. 

Jim and Renee Ramsey were united in marriage on May 18, 1968 in Topeka, Kansas, and to this union two sons were born. 

Jim enjoyed fishing, sailing, playing chess and cards.  His true love was his family. 

Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Jim never knew a stranger.  He was a servant to the Lord.  He was a well-liked member of the Girdner Community. 

Jim was preceded in death by parents; three children lost to miscarriage, Magdalene, Michael, and Joe; and his sister, Marie High.

Jim is survived by his wife, Renee; his two sons, Ben Brown and Daniel Brown and his wife, Jamie; four grandsons, Ben Brown, Zachary Brown, Eli Brown, and Tyler Brown; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Brown; his beloved dog, George; and many other relatives and friends. 

Funeral Mass for Jim will be Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM  in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Ava, Missouri. Officiating will be Bishop Edward M. Rice.  A Catholic Rosary will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Homes, Inc, Ava, Missouri.  Private burial service will be held at a later time.  In lieu of flowers and donations, please pray for all the unborn children.
