One of the World Largest Trains, “Big Boy”, to Travel Through the Ozarks Next Month

Poplar Bluff, MO. – Union Pacific Railroad will soon be letting loose an old train that has the title of being the only functional unit of the largest steam locomotives ever made, and it will be making its way through the Ozarks starting next month.

The “Big Boy” locomotives were originally developed in World War II, these 1.1 million ton titans were made to shuffle heavy materials across the mountain regions of the USA. This unit, 4014, was brought out of retirement and overhauled in 2019 as a part of a celebration for the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad.

This locomotive will be making the start of its trip in St. Louis on Thursday, September 12th before stopping at Poplar Bluff, and then leaving the next morning at 9am toward Arkansas. The next scheduled stop is set for Jonesboro.
