The Liberty Eagles faced the West Platte Blue Jays in Weston, Missouri on Saturday Afternoon, September 7th, 2024. Eagles win the game by a Score of 22-14.

1st Quarter: Early on, Liberty gets a huge advantage on downs. Going in for a good offensive draw trying to go for either a punt or a fake by Gavin Reese. Bue-Jays getsa 3rd & 6th down at the Liberty 45-yard line.  Kane Kogan works down the end to get tackled by Parker Tune. At 5:00, still no score. Gavin Reese makes a dive all the way down to the Fifty.  A good defensive-end play follows by Brayden Mays. Blue Jays are now in the 38-yard line as the Blue-Jays #3- Joe Blake gets a good catch. Blue Jays are backed up as The Eagles get a few offenders back. 1:15 to go now, still no score. Blue Jays pick up a 1st & 10, Eagles try to hold the Blue-Jays back. Offensive hold is called on the Eagles going to #10- Jaren Rutledge for the Eagles. This backs them up about 10 yards. Ball gets knocked away from the Blue-Jays, Kyle Roberts- denying the Jays six points. Blue Jays early on have gained a few penalties which gives Eagles a good advantage on downs.

2nd Quarter: Blue Jays go for a 4th & Long to start the Quarter after the ball goes loose at the end of One. They get the ball down to (approx) the 36. Eagles go for a 1st and 10 and get down to the 25, spotted at the Blue-Jays 26. Gavin Reese takes the snap and gets it down to about the 2 or 3 yard line, Parker Tune gets a touchdown from the 2 all the way down to the six. Two-point Point conversion good- Eagles drawn first blood and get on the board with a 8-0 score. About 8:37 to go. Shortly after, Buckler for the Blue-Jays goes long but is brought down. As Blue-Jays hold onto the ball Kane Cogan keeps the rhythm flowing and tries to set up a pas Blue-Jays now at the 13. Cogan underneath and Reid Tune brings down Melby around the 10-yard line with a 3rd yard line. This brings up about a 2nd & 13 around the Eagles 18 yd-line. Liberty gets backed up to 33. Football goes loose, Liberty falls on it. Bushong “aka double nickels” comes up. Parker Tune sets up for a catch for about an 11-yard catch. Eagles still 1st & 10. Another touchdown by Tune, Eagles go up by six more. Liberty now holding at 14-0. Coming back after break, Sharr gets a tackle on the tight end.  Blue Jays go in for a punt. Eagles eventually turn over on downs. Score at end of the Quarter remains 14-14.

3rd Quarter: #3- Joe Blake spotted to receive the ball. Incomplete pass intended for #6 Chandler. Kyle Roberts appears to give good coverage underneath. Liberty defense trying hold the Jays off here. Reid Tune gets another tackle for loss, However the Blue-Jays get a injured player with an ankle injury. This is #89- Alex Allison. Eagles fumble the football, Blue- Jays think they have a good run, but Eagles go inside and “cough it up” as Gary Lee states. Chris Sharr & Parker Tune go back into receive. Blue- Jays get another fumble as Eagles are letting the ball out of their width. They pick up a 1st & 10. Butler and Cogan go through a copious number of tackles and get the Jays right back to where they were. Needless to say, they are still picking up a few penalties here. Dalton Woodard smokes The Eagles and puts it in bringing the Jays to attempt a tie over the Eagles. #89- Alex Allison sends in the good extra point tying up the game 14-14. Eagles will take a 1st & 10 @ their own 33 nearly fumbling the ball again. After a good Gavin Reese fumble, Jays are pinned inside down to the 2- yard line. Reese Butler gets all the way down to the 20-yard line before he’s brought down. The Blue-Jays’ Dalton Woodard gets it down to the 45 where it’s kicked and then down to the 49 with Rutledge making the tackle. Big hit by Kyle Roberts but not before Woodard picks up a hole up the middle.

4th Quarter: Around the first play, The Blue-Jays do pick up a holding call. 3rd & 13 is the play as the Jays get backed up to the 34. Jaren Rutledge- # 10 for the Eagles & Double nickels, Matt Bushong are able to sack the quarterback. With about 14-14 to go, Chris Sharr gives the Eagles some life as some yardage is picked up. Liberty gets the touchdown as Parker Tune goes right through; Two-point conversion is good. 22-14 the score now with 3:26 to go in the game. Blue-Jays go in with a hurry up offensive. Tackle by Sharr and a catch by Butler. Over the last few minutes, Eagles play clock and win the game, improving to 1-1 & winning by a score of 22-14!

The Eagles will play again next week against the Thayer Bobcats at Home. Kickoff will be @ 1PM. You can hear the game on The Fox 96.9. Pregame will be around 12:15.
