The Cardinals shut out the Pirates 4-0 in their series opener from St. Louis. Andre Pallante got the win after giving up four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over seven innings. The bullpen didn’t allow another hit or walk over the final two frames. Nolan Arenado went two-for-four with an RBI as St. Louis snapped a three-game skid to remain third in the NL Central at 75-and-75.
Pittsburgh’s rookie phenom Paul Skenes dropped to 10-3. Two of his three losses have been against the Cardinals.
