Grizzlies play tough defense in another matchup versus Southeastern, IA

The Missouri State West Plains Grizzlies faced the Southeastern, IL Blackhawks on Saturday night, November 23rd, 2024. After a very hard fought game on defense, Blackhawks outscore the Grizzlies by a Final score of 65-57

1st Half: Inslee Carroll is the first to run with the ball who gets a pass off to Shamar Avance. The first pass play for Zizzers is from #33 Lionel Kiumwimba to #12 Ergie Kougnami who scores first for the Grizzlies who start on the board at 4-0. Grizzlies play some impressive offense in the first minute or so and this allows Javian Downey to shoot at the line first making 1-2. #10, Shamar Avance makes the first bucket for the Blackhawks and will also shoot a 1-1. After the good shot, Blackhawks trail by two. Coming out of another series of passes, Avance shoots another bucket and ties the game at 5-5. But a three ball on the rebound by #1 Richardson for the Grizzlies. As we make it down to 11:05 shot, a great jump shot by #33 Lionel Kiumwimba. Shaun Glass makes the second three pointer of the game and now are up by eleven points the Score 17-9. Much of the Blackhawk buckets are short and not far from the basket. Shamar Avance shoots the first three ball for the Blackhawks who now trail the Grizzlies by one. A few layups by Inslee Carroll & Avance are able to take the Blackhawks a four point lead. Grizzlies are trying to shoot more three pointers but not having immediate success in getting them to fall. Finally, #2 Riley Whitacker scores on a bucket and the Grizzlies trail by five.

HALFTIME- Southeast Burlington, IA Blackhawks: 24/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 19

2nd Half: Riley Whitacker is able to foul and shoot a 1-1 for the Grizzlies to start the half. But on the reboounds, baskets both good by Shamar Avance & #2, Jalen Cain for the Blackhawks. As Grizzlies get their first steal of the Half, Lionel Kiumwimba shoots 1-2 free throws for the Grizzlies. Some easy, far sided buckets from Mehki Grant who is close to leading the scoring in the half for the Blackhawks. Grizzlies are struggling to find the time to make a good shot. And finally, a jumper for Shaun Glass. Moments later, Riley Whitacker and Jonathan White are able to shoot two three and bring the trail back to five. Avance for the Blackhawks shoots the new two buckets for the Blackhawks and the Blackhawk lead is back to nine. To make the trail six, Prophet Fields scores on a 15-foot jumper. But on rebound, Riley Whitacker shoots the fourth three pointer of the night for the Grizzlies. #21, Merquiche Lewis shoots 2-2 to bring the score to 53-45, Grizzlies trailing by seven. With just 2:50 to go, Grizzlies are applying a harder press on defense. Blackhawks continuing to outscore the Grizzlies as another three pointer scored by #22, Brady Martin for the Blackhawks and Shamar Avance makes two trips to the throw line. Ryan Richardson with the long three and with 57 seconds, Blackhawks lead by eight, 62-54. With 25 seconds to go, Grizzlies fight for it and Prophet Fields attempts to get it back for the Girzzlies. By this point, Grizzlies can only do so much before fouling out Javian Downey & Riley Whitacker.
