Doyne Louise Huffman

Funeral services for Doyne L. Huffman, 87, of Ava will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Ava Church of Christ with Joe Corum officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm. Cremation services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home. Internment will be in Denney Cemetery at a later date. 

            Doyne was welcomed into the world on August 7, 1937, to Herman R. Wilson and Gertrude Buchanan Wilson, in Douglas County. Doyne entered into rest on December 28, 2024, with her son by her side.

            Doyne lived all of her life in Ava, MO. Doyne spent her childhood taking care of animals and churning butter on the family farm. She attended school at Gentry, Casto, and Mt. Zion. She graduated from Ava High School in 1955. Doyne and Dorsey B. Huffman were united in marriage at Ava Church of Christ on February 7, 1958. They were blessed with one son, Scott W. Huffman. 

            As a young woman, Doyne worked at Ava Drug and other retail stores, a doughnut shop, and for local doctors (Dr. Harlan, Dr. Gentry, and others). In later years, she worked at a local factory, then as a CNA at Chastain’s Nursing Home. She spent several years working as an EMT with the Ava Area Ambulance Service. Doyne was employed by Ozark Action in August 1984 and worked in the Head Start Program until she retired. 

            Doyne was an accomplished piano player. In her younger days, she also played the accordion and autoharp. Doyne enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and crafting. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

            Doyne was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years in 2011; her maternal grandparents, P.W. and Nancy Mallornee Buchanan; her paternal grandparents, George W. and Della Cavner Wilson; her parents; two brothers, Wilmer Ivan Wilson and Virgil Wayne Wilson; one sister, Naomi “Ruth” Burdue and husband Marion “Buddy” Burdue; and a nephew, Jerry Lee Burdue. 

            Doyne is survived by her son, CWO5 Scott Huffman, USMC (Ret), and his wife Gail Huffman of Ava; three grandchildren, Benjamin Huffman and wife Elizabeth of North Carolina, Mariah Tracy and husband Matthew of Virginia, and Jarrett Huffman stationed in Hawaii. She was a Christian and worshipped for over sixty years at Ava Church of Christ.
