The West Plains Zizzer Boys faced the Poplar Bluff Mules last night, January 14th, 2025 after a knockdown, drag out match at Salem last Wednesday night in which the Zizzers won by a Score of 60-57 in overtime. In this match, The Zizzers were at home and they dominated the Mules by a score of 67-57.
1st Quarter: Poplar Bluff mules win the tip and try for a three. They try to go up with it and stolen away by the Zizzers. Zizzers try for a shot but goes falls short and stolen back by Brendan Durden for the Mules who scores on an easy layup. Mules continue to roll with it and shot up and Good by Dallas Williams for Poplar Bluff. Stolen back by Clayton Robbins who scores the first shot of the night for the Zizzers. Stolen back by Williams for the balls but Clayton Robbins gives the mules a foul and goes to the line. Durden for Poplar Bluff tries for a shot on rebound but it is blown dead, it will be Zizzer Basketball. Jacob Moore with it and a good shot from the right wing as Zizzers take a one point lead, 6-5. And another tussle and shot up and good again by Josiah Long. Taken back by Dallas Williams who scores on a two hander, rebound long who shoots another low shot but is fouled and goes to the line. Next two plays by Clayton Robbins with two great three pointers as Zizzers keep finding their way in. And another two hander by Long finally motivates Poplar Bluff to take a time out as they have continued to allow West Plains a way in. Mules get it back and try to run with it but once again stolen by long and passed down to Jared Kraft who goes up for another shot. Zizzers hang onto it to end the Quarter with the lead 20-7.
2nd Quarter: Another shot up and good by Jacob Moore. Zizzers lose it again for a minute but ball is chased down by Long. Mules take it back and a foul on Jasper Edmundson sends him to the free throw line. Edmundson brings the ballgame down to an eleven point lead. Clayton Robbins scores fifteen more points in the next two minutes with two free throws and a long three pointer, Zizzers continue to hold the Mules to eleven but still break right through the Mule offense. Samuel Durden gets fouled for Poplar Bluff and goes to the line to shoot his first points of the night, rebound taken back by the Zizzers. Mules try for two steals and don’t quite get it and the result is two more free throw attempts for the Zizzers. Mules with the ball and Durden tries for a dunk but misses it. Another dunk up and good by Jared Kraft. Brendan Durden gets another foul and shoots 1-2 out of the line. With 25 seconds left, Zizzers try for a for a last shot but falls short.
HALFTIME- West Plains Zizzers: 34/ Poplar Bluff Mules: 21
3rd Quarter: Poplar Bluff Mules have the ball to start the Second half. Ball nearly goes out of bound but shot up and good by Samuel Durden. Taken back and reverse layup is good by Jared Kraft for the Zizzers. Mules have it and a offensive foul, Zizzers try to take it back but stolen and another shot by Samuel Durden. Williams for the Mules picks up and Kraft shoots two at the line for the Zizzers, Kraft gets another attempt as he seems to be the source of allowing the Mules to foul. Kraft gets another hook shot on rebound, his seventh point in the second half and eleventh point on the night. Zizzers continue to rally on with a good three pointer by Josiah Long as the Zizzer lead is now seventeen. Mules are eventually able to cut the lead down to nine with a jumper by Durden and a trip to the line by Edmundsen. Edmundsen continues to challenge with rebounds as the teams float in and out of a ten point lead. Jared Kraft shoots two more as much of the starting five have picked up quite a few fouls. Jasper Edmundson shoots two with about 30 seconds to go. Score at the end of the Third, 50-38. Zizzers.
4th Quarter: Edmundsen picks up his fourth team foul for the Mules and Jacob Moore shoots 1-2 at the line for the Zizzers. Mules have it on rebound and loose it, picked up by Ethan Tuma who shoots a wide open three and his first points of the night. Edmundson tries for a three but is fouled and shoots two more, Rebounded by Josiah Long with another three pointer for the Zizzers. Edmundson, who has about eleven points, is still having a lot of the same luck he did in the previous quarter with blocking and easy scoop shots. Samuel Durden picks up another foul for the Mules which sends Clayton Robbins to the line for two more with an eleven point lead by the Zizzers, 57-46. Jacob Moore is able to cause another foul on the mules and gives the Zizzers two more. Rebound by Markell Heard for the mules as scores on a jumper. Clayton Robbins fouls out of the game with 19 points on the night, this sends Samuel Durden to the line for the Mules as Zizzers now lead by eight. Suddenly Zizzers are now playing a two-possession game as Durden continues to push the Mules up at the free throw line. Finally a seven point game as Josiah Long puts in a good bucket. Edmundson fouls out of the game with eleven points and Kraft makes two more free throws, Kraft makes it an eight point game making one. Zizzers seem to make good effort to rally back at the throw line. An attempt by Aiden Judd gives him his own rebound. Moore and Long also travel to the line within the last minute ½. Zizzers are able to hold the Mules to a ten point lead and end with a Final Score of 67-57
