Lena Mae (Wallace) Thurtell was born on March 5, 1931. She passed away on January 25, 2025, at Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, at the age of 93 years, 36 days short of reaching 94.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband, George Thurtell; parents, Gus and Lucille (Staton) Wallace; two brothers, Wilmer and Frank Wallace; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Ruth and Sharon Wallace Thompson; one niece, Rhonda Wallace; one nephew, Karl Wallace; and many cousins.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Niehaus and husband, Bill of Mountain View, MO; one granddaughter, Heather Weatherbee and husband, Cliff of Centerton, AR; one grandson, Michael Niehaus of Mountain View; four great-grandchildren, Emily Gray and honorary great-grandson, Brandon Kargel both of Willow Springs, MO, Trenton Niehaus of Mountain View; Riley Ruble of Centerton and Reed Ruble of Centerton; one great-great-grandchild, Karsten Kargel of Willow Springs; three brothers, John Wallace and wife, Kathy of Texas, Wayne Wallace and wife, Caroline of Bolivar, MO, and Don Wallace and wife, Sherry of Galesburg, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Lena was known by many names: Lou, ILou, Lena Mae, friend, sister, grandma, and best of all, my mother.
No services are planned. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri. Inurnment will be in Walker Chapel Cemetery, Mountain View. Condolences may be made at www.yarbermortuary.com.
