These scammers tell recipients they have an outstanding warrant and demand payment, sometimes using caller ID spoofing to make it appear as if the call is coming from the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities emphasize that the SCSO will never call individuals to inform them of a warrant or request money over the phone. Residents who receive such calls should hang up immediately and avoid engaging with the scammers.
The Sheriff’s Office also offered a direct message to the fraudsters, encouraging them to seek legitimate, productive work instead of deceiving the community.
Anyone with concerns or who has received a suspicious call can report it to local law enforcement. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and spread awareness to protect others from falling victim to these scams.
