An Essex Woman Arrest in Oregon County

OREGON COUNTY, Mo. — A woman wanted on a felony warrant was arrested Friday after a deputy found her hiding near a rural residence, where authorities say she was also found with methamphetamine concealed in her clothing.

According to a probable cause statement, Sgt. Michael Bunting received information on May 8 that Amber Dawn Prewett was at a residence connected to an earlier vehicle theft report. A man at the home initially told the deputy she was not there.

Bunting returned a short time later on foot. As he approached, he reported hearing movement near a fence line. From behind a tree, he saw “a small figure” moving through brush. When he used his flashlight, he located Prewett walking along the fence and placed her under arrest.

While escorting her to his patrol vehicle, Bunting asked whether she had anything illegal on her. The statement says Prewett was uncooperative, but the deputy noticed an item at the bottom of her bra line. She removed one item, then—after a second request—handed over a rolled piece of aluminum foil. She allegedly asked the deputy not to charge her with the items.

After transporting her to the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office on her existing felony warrant, Bunting opened the items and reported finding a crystal-like substance in each. A TruNarc test indicated the substance was methamphetamine. The items were sealed and placed into evidence pending crime lab analysis.

Bunting requested a warrant for possession of a controlled substance, noting Prewett’s active warrant and stating he did not believe she would appear on a summons.
