An Ohio man is being held without bond after authorities say he carried out a violent hostage incident in Mountain Grove on July 3. According to the probable cause statement, witnesses told deputies that Daniel Stephen Mack arrived at a Thornhill Drive residence armed with a revolver and confronted multiple victims.
One victim reported Mack pointed the gun at three people and forced them toward a camper, at one point pressing the revolver into his back. During a struggle, Mack allegedly struck the victim in the head several times with the gun, and the firearm discharged. Victims told deputies Mack then handcuffed one of them, gathered their dogs as “collateral,” and forced them toward his vehicle before driving off with one victim, who was later released in Cabool.
Deputies say Mack had been stalking the victims for weeks and was later arrested in Butler County by the Missouri State Highway Patrol with a revolver and handcuffs in his possession. Injuries observed on one victim were consistent with being struck with the weapon.
Mack now faces kidnapping in the second degree, first‑degree assault, and armed criminal action, and is being held with no bond.
