Our community has been deeply shaken by this case. A young life has been taken from us far too soon, leaving a wound that will never truly heal for her family and friends. Others severely injured. I ask that our entire Carter County community continue to keep this family in your prayers and surround them with your support during this unimaginably difficult time.
We have an important update regarding the active investigation. Charges against the suspect, Peter Taylor, have officially been updated to include Murder in the 1st Degree.
The full list of upgraded and active charges against Taylor now includes:
Murder 1st Degree
Assault 1st Degree or Attempt – Serious Physical Injury (3 counts)
Armed Criminal Action (4 counts)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon (3 counts)
Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree (1 count)
I want to say how incredibly proud I am of my team here at the Carter County Sheriff’s Office. They have been relentless, NEVER stopping, working non-stop from the very beginning to pursue the suspect and gather critical evidence.
