MOUNTAIN HOME, ARKANSAS- The Mountain Home City Council has cleared way for a new veteran’s clinic. Just last week, a West End Way Site was rezoned in order to close the property and begin construction.
This announcement comes as major concerns have been voiced among veterans in The Twin Lakes area. The region’s current VA outpatient clinic located on Highway 62 East in The Twin Lakes Plaza currently operates under a community-based contract and has drawn complaints about space, staffing, and wait times.
A large portion of concerns came out in March of 2025 during a Central Arkansas Healthcare System Town Hall Meeting. During a question-and-answer session, a veteran expressed a need for a “Permeant VA Facility” and not a contracted facility.
The delays in this project have come in large part due to planning and zoning debates. Following a public hearing, The planning commission for the project recommended the facility follow G-2(C) designation guidelines, so the zoning would be able to accommodate larger medical use and not have to return to council for another rezoning as it grows. Also; the nearest Arkansas VA Hospitals is hours away with locations in either Fayetteville or Little Rock.
At the present time, no additional information has been gathered as far as the services the clinic would provide.
