John “JB” Knowling

With deep love, we announce the passing of John Boyd Knowling, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away on July 29, 2026, at his home in Cherokee Village, Arkansas. John was born on October 10, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. He worked most of his career in the insurance business, the last twenty-three years in various roles at Blue Cross – Blue Shield of Iowa. In his retirement he freely gave his time to his family and community, most recently in the role of President of the Board of the White River Area Agency on Aging.

John was an avid golfer, occasional fisherman, and enjoyed travel with friends and family, as documented by the array of souvenir pins that he collected in his journeys. He taught his family the value of hard work, a positive attitude, humor, and caring for others through actions. He will be remembered for his folksy sayings, willingness to drive hours for a family commitment, the way he expressed his life wisdom, and sharing love with all of those blessed to know him.
