The final day of Chiefs practice for the week was hot, humid and chippy. Fights broke out between defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah and guard Kingsley Suamataia, and another between safety Alohi Gilman and running back Kenneth Walker during the infamous Andy Reid long-drive drill. Patrick Mahomes says that can happen after six straight days in pads during such a competitive training camp.
There was some question whether Patrick Mahomes would even practice in St. Joseph this season after suffering a season-ending knee injury late last year. But Mahomes was cleared just two days before the start of training camp at Missouri Western State and hasn’t missed a practice, surprising fans and coaches with how healthy his knee looks. Mahomes says there are times when he even forgets about the injury.
The first preseason game is Saturday, and with Patrick Mahomes cleared for training camp, the question now is whether he’ll see any preseason action. Head coach Andy Reid says with depth behind Mahomes to evaluate, there’s a good chance he lets the other quarterbacks play instead.
Mahomes says it’s Reid’s decision, but he’ll be ready to play if he’s called upon.
The Chiefs host the Los Angeles Rams next Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium in the first of two preseason games against teams
