The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Athletics program is entering the upcoming academic year with significant momentum, highlighted by a revamped coaching lineup and the introduction of a major new event.
In a recent preview, the athletic department showcased fresh leadership across several key sports. The volleyball program is under new direction, following the appointment of head coach Dustin Salaman earlier this year. Salaman is joined by assistant coach Briana Domino. Additionally, the department has bolstered its support staff with the hiring of a new athletic trainer, Chayton Lee. The basketball program has also seen leadership changes, with the appointment of head coach Dylan Hargrove and assistant coach Spencer Brown.
Beyond the personnel updates, the Grizzlies are set to expand their campus footprint in a major way. For the first time in school history, MSU-WP will host a collegiate rodeo. The “Hirsch Feed Grizzly Stampede” is scheduled to take place October 8th through 10th at the local fairgrounds, promising to be a highlight of the fall sports calendar.
The action begins soon across multiple disciplines:
Volleyball: Scrimmages are scheduled for the coming weeks, leading up to the highly anticipated home opener on September 22nd.
Rodeo: The inaugural stampede event is slated for the September-October timeframe.
Basketball: The team is preparing to hit the court as their season tips off in November.
Baseball & Softball: Both squads will participate in fall scrimmages to prepare for their upcoming seasons.
