Howell County, MO. – With more than 6,500 documented caves in the Ozarks, the unique topography of the area can lend itself to an equally unique set of scenarios for emergency response units. This week, multiple first response agencies participated together in a set of training drills for just such a situation.
This information was shared by the Eleven Point Rural Fire Department, who also shared pictures of the event. Agencies in attendance includes Willow Springs Fire Dept, Mountain View Fire Dept, Howell County Rural Fire District #1, Willow springs EMS, and Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
The drills consisted of rescuing those who may be trapped or injured inside a cave, and what to do in an in-progress arrest where a suspect may flee into a cave.
Roughly 40 people took part in the drills.
