The 2026 Baxter County Fair returns to Mountain Home from September 15–19, carrying the theme “Ribbons, Rides, & America Unites.” The fair book outlines a full week of competitions, entertainment, livestock shows, and community traditions, along with several updates for this year—including new rules for lawnmower races, added classes for canned stock/broth, trophy steers, and an expanded guinea pig show.
Festivities begin early on August 29, when Dunbar Auditorium hosts both the Baby Contest and the Baxter County Fair Pageant. The pageant features divisions for children and young adults ages 3–23, judged on beauty, poise, dress, and personality. Audience Choice Awards return, allowing the public to vote for contestants at $1 per vote.
The fair’s first major public event, the Baxter County Fair Parade, rolls out on September 12 at 10 a.m., starting on Hospital Drive. Floats, marching bands, youth groups, political entries, and livestock royalty line up across multiple staging areas. Candy throwing is permitted, and float divisions offer cash prizes for business and religious categories.
Beginning September 15, the fairgrounds come alive as exhibitors check in home economics, art, photography, baked goods, and horticulture entries. Livestock—including cattle, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits, and cavies—arrive throughout the week. Many divisions award premium points, ribbons, and Best of Show honors, with junior exhibitors eligible for the coveted Junior Achievement Award.
Daily entertainment includes carnival rides, commercial exhibits, and nightly concerts on the outdoor stage, featuring BASIC, FlipSide, the Leslie Williams Band, and The Table Worship Band. There are also special themed days to honor senior citizens and veterans with free admission.
Livestock competitions dominate mid‑week: swine, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, rabbits, poultry, and market classes fill the arena schedule. Youth compete in showmanship, grooming contests, and the Livestock Skill‑A‑Thon, which tests breed identification, feedstuffs, equipment, and anatomy.
Saturday brings Kids Day, a lineup of youth activities including relay races, crafts, scavenger hunts, and nature exhibits. The afternoon features the Parade of Champions, followed by livestock releases, the Chainsaw Contest, and the crowd‑favorite Lawnmower Races, now governed by updated rules posted through Greg Farm Services.
