Springfield, MO. – By this point, many people have received information that this year’s winter could be heavily impacted by the strong El Niño present in the pacific.
The National Weather Service (NWS) says that there is currently a 93-98% chance that this El Niño becomes “very strong” for October through at least January, with a 75% chance that it exceeds the strength of all previous El Niño events dating back to 1950.
What that means is that weather patterns could see a strong shift as we progress over the next few months, and the NWS have put together to describe exactly what an El Niño is, and it could change up your winter in the Ozarks.
In summary, while there’s no way to know exactly how winter will go, El Niño patterns will likely lead us to heavier precipitation and slightly warmer temperatures, meaning snow or ice are not off the table.
