A West Plains man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he assaulted his adult daughter and endangered three children during a violent incident at a private residence in Oregon County.
According to a probable cause statement filed September 16, the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call reporting that Shannon D. Butler had assaulted his daughter, attempted to choke her, and later shattered the back window of her vehicle as she tried to leave with her children. The victim told deputies Butler “put his knee on her chest trying to smother and choke her” and later “placed his hand over her mouth and plugs her nose where she cannot breathe.”
Deputies say the children witnessed the assault and screamed at their grandfather “not to kill their mommy.” The victim reported that Butler followed her vehicle down the county road until she reached a neighbor’s home.
Butler was arrested after deputies interviewed him at the gate of the property. He claimed his daughter broke into the home and attacked him, and deputies documented marks on his back. He was taken into custody pending formal charges.
Prosecutors have charged Butler with third‑degree domestic assault, property damage, armed criminal action, and three counts of second‑degree endangering the welfare of a child. His bond is set at $5,000.
